Hugs n Horses Staff Program Director of Hugs n Horses, Dr. Sherry Harrison. Dr. Sherry Harrison had a full time private practice in Scottsdale, AZ for over 20 years, and currently has a part-time private practice. She is an Associate Professor in the Clinical Psychology doctoral program at the American School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University/Phoenix where she teaches in the clinical and sport psychology departments. She has consulted in a number of settings including medical clinics, in-patient behavioral health hospitals, Child Protective Services, and residential treatment centers. Within the field of sport psychology she specializes in working with equestrians of all disciplines. As president of the Mind, Body, Horse Connection, she works with competitive and traumatized riders, and has conducted workshops and clinics across the U.S., Canada, Bermuda, and Australia. She has worked with therapeutic riding centers, helping volunteers to better partner with their centers' horses. She has presented seminars and poster sessions about her work with equestrians and their horses at the Association for the Advancement of Sport Psychology and the International Sport Psychology Congress. Her research interests are in the areas of trauma, stress management, health psychology, animal assisted therapy, and equine facilitated therapy. Dr. Harrison will be providing counseling services to program participants working with Horses Help staff at their facility. Lisa Elder Outhier, PsyD, a clinical psychologist, will be providing counseling services to the program participants in addition to Dr. Sherry Harrison. Dr. Outhier received her Bachelors degree in psychology from Arizona State University. She completed her Masters degree and Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology at Argosy University/Phoenix. Dr. Outhier provides individual and family therapy for children, adolescents, and families. Specialties include working with children with developmental disabilities, internalizing and externalizing disorders, relationship conflict, and with adolescents. Intervention strategies include play therapy, Cognitive Behavioral therapy, parent education, and social skills training. Dr. Outhier offers psychological and psychoeducational testing services. Dr. Outhier also works as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychology at Argosy University/Phoenix where she teaches classes in lifespan development, child and adolescent psychopathology, and specialty interventions for children and adolescents. Research interests include social skills interventions with autism spectrum populations. |
